Jaybird, I am sorry to hear your struggles. I would talk with your manager and explain the situation and that you will try to pay something as you look for work. I know with the economy the way it is most owners would like to have someone in their units that are willing to pay something then to have them vacant. I know with the owner of my house, he has so many vacant properties that he works with me on the rent even to the point of helping me get section 8, so I would talk with him/her and see what you can work out, after all some money is better then none. I would check out local Churches, ,Salvation Army, Catholic Charities, and see if they have any resources that can help you also. God bless and I will keep you and your daughter in my prayers.
